As I have developed my craft, I have been heavily influenced by the contemporary art coming out of Ireland that articulates the changing landscape of Irish culture. My aim is to make subversive and abject art: films and objects that discomfort the viewer. I strive to make what I, as a viewer, want to see: well crafted, lecherous, painful, and bewildering video work.
I view every medium I use from the perspective of a collage artist. I strive to create shapes and fill spaces as a way of exploring fractured narratives, and to significantly test the mediums in which I make collage.
My work is deliberately in opposition to a White Cube environment. I believe that to engage with an artwork, the alienation of being in what may be perceived as a ‘sacred space’ precludes an open attitude, which in turn, risks a loss of artistic meaning.
