How we present ourselves is an art form. How we are viewed is a revolving relationship between voyeur and exhibitionist, whether we want it or not. My work is an exploration of black and queer pleasure, through the process of exhibitionism. It is a focus on reclaiming and centering my personal narrative, and the creation of myself for the consumption of the outside world. It contrasts imagery, illustration, video and sound in an attempt to encompass the push and pull of desire to portray the truth, whilst reclaiming and distorting my relationship with race and sexuality.
My work takes place within the walls of my bedroom. It is intimate yet curated, natural and uncomfortable. It is controlled. My work explores the relationship between myself (Exhibitionist) and the viewer (Voyeur), and how I desire to be perceived and what joy I can take from it, including while being consumed by whiteness and heteronormativity.
