I am a textiles artist and facilitator from Dublin. Drawing inspiration from my time working with refugee communities in Greece, I spent lockdown reflecting on our collective attitudes towards borders, especially in the context of a global pandemic.
Bring confined to our homes, unable to see family or friends, and unable to go to school or work, for the first time many of us experienced the same difficulties faced by refugee communities every day.
The inhumane conditions in refugee camps are a far cry from the idealised Europe we project to the rest of the world. With our homes transformed from places of comfort to places of confinement, will we leave the pandemic a more empathetic population?
