'Progression Through the Glass Ceiling’ is a women’s wear printed textile collection which maps the journey of women, as they navigate their way to the top of the modern workforce. The ‘glass ceiling' is a term used to describe an invisible social barrier that prevents women from advancing in their careers.
Through photography, mixed media, and digital manipulations, several visual themes are explored. These themes include feelings of restriction, breaking through the glass ceiling as well as the interplay of light and dark to represent the nuances of sexism and the gradual breakdown of barriers.
Material and print technique exploration has been an integral part of the design process, allowing these themes to be further explored; not just through the collections minimalistic and graphic forms, but through the tactility of the designs. The aim of this collection is to act as a source of self-confidence through the story it represents and the subtleties in the design and fabric innovation.
