Off the Grid
Social media allows its users to create an online persona and to become part of an online societal space, which mimics an actual society through unique social behaviours and attitudes, from the curation of a profile, to the system of conventions employed by users in their images. It represents the progression of a dangerous new visual culture, one that uses a definitive visual language.
Drawing attention to the damage social media has on the central self, outside of digital space, is crucial for future generations. Media consumption is at an all-time high for the youth. The nature of the self is dampened by this excessive stimulation that is seemingly endless. Do the younger generations have a clear view of their identity and sense of self anymore?
‘Off the grid’ is a game that aims to get people connected offline. By playing the game it reinforces the importance of communication with one another in a social setting.
