Ghostly objects and photographs found in family albums have guided me to my grandmother’s house. It is a house that has shaped me from a distance, holding onto many memories; a living and breathing time capsule, preserved through sorrow and pain. A place where time has paused.
Informed by circulation of material, fragmentation and layering of time, memory and language, this body of work is a journey through space and time. It explores objects and stories that have filled in for someone’s absence, left traces behind, and are now inherited by me. The work lives within the gaps, pauses and silences created by distance as a consequence of the Irish diaspora.
