'Between Land and Sea' with Master of Fine Art (MFA) graduate Patricia Hennessy.

9 Jun / 2:00 PM
Duration: 30 minutes

NCAD Harry Clarke House

The ‘Between Land and Sea’ event comprises readings by NCAD MFA Painting graduate Patricia Hennessy. These readings are an extension of MFA graduate Patricia Hennessy’s expanded painting installation ‘Between Land and Sea’ which investigates different cultural mythologies of mermaids to consider processes of identity formation at an individual and collective level.

Hennessy will perform readings reflecting on exploration of shipwrecks, linking maritime archaeology and human exploration of the unconscious.

Selected texts include ‘The Wreck of the Mermaid’ by James P. Delgado which relates diving explorations of Russalka (translation: Mermaid), a 19th-century Russian ironclad that now rests on the bottom of the Baltic Sea and the celebrated, feminist poem ‘Diving into the Wreck’ by the poet Adrienne Rich - 1929-2012. The event will conclude with a performance of ‘I AM a Hybrid Being’ a monologue written to accompany the exhibition ‘Between Land and Sea’.
